Maggots!
A plague has been brought down on us! Maggots, everywhere! I'm reading Island by Aldous Huxley and there are some excellent observations. As a read it's a strange mixture of depressing and uplifting. The maggots reference alludes to the principal character's experiences in London and an awakening whereby he suddenly realised that all the people around him were maggots. People, but maggots. His relationship with a woman helped him to see them less and less, but they still remained.
The Manic Street Preachers might have hit on it when they sang "...little people in little houses like maggots small blind and worthless." I have no idea how to punctuate the sentence as Mr Bradfield just rumbles though it. Dark thoughts they be, to bring a person to that kind of conclusion!
On a more optimistic note, I got a pay-rise of sorts for my works here on the island. Money is not a motivator for me in the materialistic sense, but it means I can focus more of my energy and funds into my personal allotment. The growth this year has been remarkable, but a tiny outlay on the necessities has seen the french beans bring the bamboo climbing frame down to the floor. I had to spend 2 hours just getting the poor buggers back up and pegged in place. Next year I'll consider a more robust framework.
Anyway, I have a curry en route as I type. Food for thought indeed. The local takeaway runs a roaring trade of a Sabbath.
